I am a big fan of professional standings columns that don't take up too much real estate. I also like the information to be useful and customizeable. I call this approach either "dynamic standings" or "clean standings." This is a rough idea and surely there are things that could be added or edited.
What is it?
Dynamic standings require only one column of information (in addition to standard information such as the driver name, current position, car manufacturer) . They can also be rather customized by the user. By default it shows the gap to the leader up to 3 decimals. Though it could be set to display any items, ideally. The gap can be customized between 0 decimals and 3. The gap updates at a frequency set by the user (update gap times every x-seconds).
Showing the leader's last lap time or best time is optional.
Example of items that can be included in dynamic standings (but not limited to) that would temporarily replace the gap to the leader:
More functionality
Specific items can replace the gap times at user's desired frequency. For example, a user can set the positions gained/lost to replace the gap times every x-seconds/minutes, and display for x-seconds. If I want to show the gain/loss every three minutes for just 10 seconds, I can trigger that to loop all race. If I want to trigger the best lap of the race to show every three minutes for ten seconds, I can trigger that as well (but not interrupting the gain/loss display loop). Multple items can be selected and looped at a set frequency.
For each item that is currently being displayed, an optional header would display. For example when positions gained/lost is displayed, "Pos. Changed" is displayed at the top of the standings tower. This display name can be customized by the user.
More columns could be added by the user. They can be added to remain displayed/static, or to "pop out" at a desired frequency.
Why Dynamic/Clean standings?
The reason I like this approach is streamers often have plenty of information to display, but it eats up so much screen space that they reduce the size of the information. Unfortunately I am then unable to read the information unless I pull out my telescope. Cleaning up the standings and making them more "dynamic" would allow for larger standings columns without eating up half of the screen real estate.
I also like it because it feels clean and useful. And I'm a sucker for simple, clean, and pretty overlay information.
